This easy cottage cheese Alfredo sauce recipe is a healthier way to enjoy a decadent cream sauce! Add it to pasta, pizza, veggies, and more.
Cottage cheese Alfredo sauce is a healthier twist on classic Alfredo, replacing the usual heavy cream and butter with cottage cheese. Like my whipped cottage cheese and cottage cheese ice cream recipes, the cottage cheese is blended smooth, so you seriously don’t even notice the swap! It’s just as rich, savory, and cheesy, and you’ll love adding this velvety smooth sauce to dishes like my chicken tortellini Alfredo and other pastas.
Why You’ll Love This Cottage Cheese Alfredo Sauce
- Rich Alfredo sauce, lightened up. A bowl full of pasta with a heavy cream based sauce can make you feel weighed down and unpleasantly stuffed after eating. This cottage cheese Alfredo sauce is still creamy and decadent, but it’s not too much.
- Packed with protein. With cottage cheese as its main ingredient, this sauce packs in much more protein than the traditional version.
- Easy to make. This recipe requires minimal cooking time and only a handful of simple ingredients, making it an amazing option for a quick weeknight dinner.
What You’ll Need

- Cottage cheese – Use a full-fat variety for a richer, creamier sauce.
- Milk – Whatever kind you keep on hand.
- Garlic – I add a single clove, but if you want your Alfredo sauce extra garlicky, go ahead and add another.
- Seasonings – Salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
- Grated Parmesan – I recommend using freshly grated Parmesan, which melts more smoothly into the cottage cheese Alfredo sauce.
How to Make Cottage Cheese Alfredo Sauce
- Blend. Add the cottage cheese, milk, garlic, salt and pepper to your blender and blend until smooth. Season to taste.
- Heat. Pour the mixture into a pan set over medium-low heat. Warm and whisk in the Parmesan and Italian seasoning until smooth. (Alternatively, you can simply add the sauce to hot pasta with the Parmesan and Italian seasoning and toss to coat.)
- Serve. Garnish with fresh herbs and cracked black pepper.
Tips for Success
- Blend thoroughly. To ensure a velvety sauce, make sure to blend the cottage cheese mixture until completely smooth. You don’t want curds in your Alfredo sauce!
- Adjust the seasoning to taste. Don’t forget to taste the sauce and add more salt and pepper as needed. You can also add additional Italian seasoning or cheese if you’d like.
- Use roasted garlic. For a different spin on this cottage cheese Alfredo sauce, swap the fresh garlic clove with a whole head of roasted garlic. (I know it sounds like a lot, but roasted garlic has a much more mellow flavor!)
My Favorite Ways to Use Cottage Cheese Alfredo Sauce
- Classic fettuccine Alfredo. Toss cooked fettuccine with the cottage cheese Alfredo sauce and garnish with chopped parsley.
- Alfredo pizza. Spread the sauce over a pizza crust (I love this 5-ingredient quinoa flour pizza crust) and top with mozzarella, sautéed spinach, diced chicken, or any other toppings you like.
- Zoodles with Alfredo. Keep it light by tossing the sauce with spiralized zucchini.
- Dipping. Warm Alfredo sauce makes an awesome dipping sauce for roasted veggies. Try it with crispy roasted potatoes.
How to Store and Reheat Leftovers
- Refrigerator: Leftover cottage cheese Alfredo sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- Freezer: Freeze in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
- Reheat: Warm leftover sauce on the stovetop over medium heat, stirring occasionally until heated through, or use the microwave.
